Yoga Helps Calming The Mind
Yoga is known for its ability to ease stress and relax our body and mind. Multiple studies have shown that it can decrease the secretion of cortisol, the primary stress hormone, and people struggling with anxiety will find here an efficient way to calm their mind.
A study aimed to evaluate potential effects of yoga demonstrated its strong effect on stress by following 24 women who perceived themselves as emotionally distressed. After a three-month yoga program, the women had lower levels of cortisol. They also had lower levels of anxiety, fatigue and depression.
The science behind it? Meditation is the key to yoga. There is sometimes some confusion about the meaning of meditation, but it’s not as complicated as you may think. You can meditate anywhere quiet and at any time you like. Whilst we practice yoga, our only focus should be our movements and breath (we know, it’s easy to say) and that’s how we get into a meditative state. We’re often so busy we don’t take the time to reflect on how things impact us mentally, therefore meditation improves our quality of life by giving our mind the time to process everything that goes on in our life, leaving us relaxed, and perhaps with a different perspective on things.
